With meetings booming, market forces allow hotels to pick and choose clients and impose tougher contract terms. The social unrest and changing laws affecting gun rights, religious expression, and other areas of everyday life is affecting our attendees' willingness to attend events in some popular occasions. And Airbnb, Uber and other parts of the sharing economy, as well as tech innovations, are impacting our room blocks, meeting costs, and guests’ privacy. All of these factors will confront meeting professionals with increasing frequency in the coming years.

This program is an interactive and thought-provoking review of the year’s hottest issues. Learn how to address these issues and more:

  • Threats caused by “room poaching” – unauthorized housing agencies contacting your guests
  • Airbnb and other “sharing economy” businesses and their effect on hotel room blocks and meeting space
  • New gun laws allowing open-carry and concealed weapons in your meetings
  • Meetings in Marijuana-friendly cities
  • Planning for controversial new laws that raise calls to boycott your meeting city
  • Challenges of unauthorized suppliers “Suitcasing” at events and cutting into revenues while undercutting valuable exhibitors and sponsorships
  • Zika, Ebola, terrorism, and other threats that may keep attendees away from your meeting
  • Protecting guests’ personal information on computer networks and in cyberspace
  • RFID technology pro’s and con’s
