One of the primary assets and values of most associations is their ability to advocate for the shared interests of their members. It doesn't matter what industry or interest your association represents, there are federal, state, and local decision-makers making policy that may affect your members. Influencing these decision-makers is not easy and often takes multiple strategies and approaches. There is no question the large centralized advocacy and professional lobbying an association may provide is critical to the interests it represents. However, how do you better leverage your association members at the local level to help advance the association's overall policy initiatives?

The "Power of Grassroots Advocacy By Your Association" will provide many tools, ideas, and suggestions to help your association's advocacy efforts. This hour-long 'boot camp' on grassroots advocacy for your members will cover many topics, including:

  • What is grassroots advocacy?
  • Building strategies for all policy-makers
  • Inexpensive advocacy tricks
  • The importance of staff
  • Building and using political capital wisely
  • Avoiding adverse advocacy
  • Coalition building
  • And more...
