Devices Down! Engaging Today’s Audiences Differently

Today’s audiences need to be highly engaged – immediately – or they will tune out. Presenters are competing for the attention of demanding attendees who have low tolerance for talking heads, short attention spans, and the considerable diversions of their phones and other devices. In this session, Shawna Suckow, CMP, will discuss how our evolving technology, culture and generations have changed how we meet, and how we learn. We’ll delve into the evolving Adult Learning Theory and how to capture the attention of participants in new ways. Throughout it all, participants will connect with lots of others for meaningful discussions and peer-to-peer learning.

• Experience several live examples of engagement concepts you can apply immediately to your events;
• Learn to coach presenters in breaking the mold of tired meeting formats;
• Discover new ways to ignite excitement in meetings, and engage audiences differently and meaningfully.

 Don’t Become Extinct! Join the Sales & Marketing Evolution

Welcome to the era of Relationship Marketing! Planners all over the world are evolving and changing, and American planners are particularly different than they were just a few years ago. Following the recession, buyers changed how they behave, how they prefer to be connected with, and how they make their buying decisions. The days of cold calling are over, and planners don’t respond to email anymore. They’re using technology and procurement processes more and more to lock you out of their sales process. The traditional sales role is dying. What’s a salesperson supposed to do? Traditional marketing methods are dying. What’s a marketing exec supposed to do??

Join Shawna Suckow, CMP, Founder of SPIN, the 3,000-member Senior Planners’ Industry Network, as she shares the insider secrets from her brand-new book, based on extensive buyer research. She’s been a million-dollar buyer and influencer in the event planning industry for over 20 years, and she’s spoken to suppliers on five continents to help them strategize, market better, and sell more.

This session will position you better for the immediate future, as well as prepare you for coming shifts. You’ll learn new ways to use old tools that will save you lots of time and frustration. She’ll also introduce you to some new tools and strategies that will help you seize marketing opportunities, prospect better, sell easier, and ultimately drive revenue in 2017 and beyond.

Shawna Suckow, CMP, was a planner for over 20 years. In 2008 she founded SPIN, the 3,000-member Senior Planners Industry Network. She now travels the globe helping sales audiences understand shifting buyer behavior, and speaking to the meetings industry.

Honors include being named to the 2015 list of Top 100 Women Business & Tech Speakers, 2015 Top 25 Women in the Industry, Top 25 Most Influential in the Meetings Industry in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and Planners' Favorite Speakers of 2014 and 2015.

KellySpeaking the Visual Language of the Millennial Generation
Each day over 70 million photos are uploaded to Instagram alone. Texting requires less and less actual text, and instead a string of emojis. In a digital landscape where visual assets are kin, are your images making an impact? In this session, Melissa Kelly explores the visual language of Millennials, and how to connect with and inspire your audience. From current trends in photography and video sharing to how to harness the power of your own digital archive to maximize its recruitment potential, understanding the rise of the visual consumer is paramount.

• Understand how the newest generations communicate, produce, and consume information;
• Learn how to create and share content to engage those constituents;
• Identify ways to inspire the Visual Millennial.

Melissa Kelly is a Visual Communications specialist who creates high-quality print and digital image strategies to support brand development, marketing, admissions, recruitment, public relations, fundraising, and communication activities for her clients. With deep roots in graphic design and photography, she has spearheaded efforts to elevate both visual brands and the management of their digital archives to maximize the use of quality branded and historical images. Melissa cut her teeth working with an in-house creative team and uniquely understands the needs and challenges of today’s day-to-day content creators.
