Legalities of HR Issues

Our session will focus on top labor and employment law compliance issues facing employers in 2017 and beyond.  We will delve into five “hot” topics:  current federal regulatory issues, including the status of the overtime regulations, and implications for employers; developing trends in state and local laws impacting employers; key discrimination and harassment issues, including the “new protected class”; Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana law and what it means for the workplace and employer drug testing policies; and the many challenges that social media presents for employers.

Speaker: Kelley E. Kaufman, Attorney | Labor & Employment Practice Group, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
Kelley practices in McNees Wallace & Nurick’s Labor & Employment, Education Law, and Automobile Dealer Practice Groups.  She provides advice and counseling to clients on labor and employment law and legal compliance.  This includes regular day-to-day counseling on a variety of issues arising in the workforce, such as issues relating to compliance with federal and state employment discrimination laws, wage and hour obligations, family and medical leave, employee relations, non-compete and separation agreements, employee performance management, unemployment compensation, employee benefits, litigation avoidance, and more.  Kelley regularly defends clients before federal and state courts in employment-related litigation and before federal and state agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Board of Review.

Kelley regularly conducts seminars and training for clients on various aspects of labor and employment law and legal compliance – including topics such as discriminatory harassment avoidance, wage and hour compliance, management of medical leave of absence and accommodation issues, the “dos and don’ts” of hiring and firing, and more.  Kelley also contributes to McNees’ labor and employment blog – www.palaborandemploymentblog.com.
