Executive Director Position

A small, non-profit, trade association (501c6), serving a specific segment of Pennsylvania’s Motor Carrier industry, is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Executive Director. 

A qualified candidate must be a hands-on, driven, self motivated professional with exceptional organizational, communication and managerial skills.  Knowledge of the Motor Carrier industry is beneficial but not required. CAE (Certified Association Management) credentials are not a requirement but helpful.  It will not be required to report to Harrisburg, PA on a daily basis but residing within a reasonable length drive of the area is necessary. 

Requirements and expectations of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Professional Experience:  Previous or current successful management level employment in a trade association.
  2. Event Planning:  A significant amount of this position’s time is spent on the details involved in scheduling, planning and overseeing the successful execution of annual events and other activities deemed appropriate or necessary by the Board.
  3. Communication: Clearly and concisely communicate concepts, programs and objectives in both oral and written formats. Prepare and disseminate information pertaining to all facets of association activity in a timely manner.
  4. Legislative Process:  Work with the association’s lobbying firm to recognize, understand and effectively represent membership legislative/regulatory interests on a state level; disseminate important information to association membership; represent the association before governmental agencies and bodies as directed; work closely with national industry associations on federal regulatory and legislative issues.  
  5. Office and Personnel Management: Successful administration of office procedures including the management of personnel and/or outside service providers.   
  6. Financial:  Basic understanding of bookkeeping. Maintain records consistent with proper accounting procedures and reporting. Serve as custodian and manager of Association funds as directed.
  7. Records and Information Management:  Maintain all records relating to Association activities.
  8. Industry Involvement:  Maintain an awareness of industry trends and activities; establish, maintain and promote communication with other state and national associations representing the motorcoach industry; perform as liaison between the Administrative Board and the industry.
  9. Board Involvement:  Provide staff assistance to the Chairman, Treasurer and various committees of the Administrative Board. Implement policy, directives and programs developed by the Board in a prompt and expeditious manner.
  10. Marketing:  Establish and carry out programs promoting membership retention and new member solicitation; purposefully establish positive relationships with all membership categories.  Assume responsibility for the promotion and coordination of activities designed to generate revenue and expand the association.
